Its English name is pet or PETP, commonly known as polyester resin. It is a condensation polymer of terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol, together with PBT, it is called thermoplastic polyester, or saturated polyester. In 1946, the United Kingdom published a report on the production of pet. In 1949, ICI completed the pilot test. However, after DuPont purchased the report, it established a production unit in 1953 and realized industrial production in the world. In the early stage, pet was almost used for synthetic fiber (commonly known as Dacron in China). Since the 1980s, pet as an engineering plastic has made a breakthrough, and the nucleating agent and crystallization accelerator have been developed. At present, pet and PBT are used as thermoplastic polyester, and become one of the five engineering plastics. Pet is divided into fiber grade polyester chip and non fiber polyester chip. 1. Fiber grade polyester is used to manufacture polyester staple fiber and polyester filament. It is the raw material for polyester fiber enterprises to process fiber and related products. Polyester is the product of chemical fiber. 2. Non fiber grade polyester is widely used in packaging industry, electronic and electrical appliances, medical and health care, construction and automobile fields. Packaging is the non fiber application market of polyester, and also the fast growing field of pet. As a packaging material, pet has some advantages It has good mechanical properties, impact strength is 3 ~ 5 times of other films, and good folding resistance. Resistant to oil, fat, enoic acid, dilute alkali and solvent. It has excellent resistance to high and low temperature. It can be used for a long time in the temperature range of 120 ℃. For a short time, it can withstand high temperature of 150 ℃ and low temperature of - 70 ℃. The permeability of gas and steam is low, and it has excellent gas blocking, water, oil and odor perbance. High transparency, UV blocking, good gloss. It is nontoxic, tasbess, hygienic and safe, and can be directly used in food packaging.
